Kimi (Moonshot AI) review (2026)
Last updated .
Our verdict
Kimi is the assistant from Moonshot AI, now running Kimi K3.1 Pro (launched Oct 23, 2026), an open-weight model with a 1M-token context aimed at coding and agent work. Strengths: very long context, apps for web, mobile and desktop plus Kimi Code, and an API at $2 per million input and $10 per million output tokens. Weaknesses: we haven't verified consumer plan pricing, it's newer to Western users than ChatGPT or Claude, and full weights aren't out until Nov 4. Use it if you want a strong open-model alternative for long documents or code. Skip it if you want the most polished ecosystem; ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini still lead there.
