GitHub Copilot review (2026)
Last updated .
Our verdict
GitHub Copilot is GitHub's AI coding agent. It works in your editor, the terminal, desktop and on GitHub itself, from an open issue to a reviewed pull request. Strengths: a real free tier, a low $10/mo Pro plan, wide editor support (VS Code, JetBrains, Xcode, Neovim and more), and a broad menu of models. Weaknesses: usage now runs on AI credits, so heavy agent sessions on frontier models burn through your allowance faster. Use it if your code already lives on GitHub. Skip it if you want a no-code app builder.
